LCS Hosts Inaugural New Board Member Orientation

New Board Member Orientation 2018

The inaugural LCS New Board Member Orientation took place on November 13-14, 2018 at the LCS corporate offices in Des Moines, Iowa. LCS is the nation’s second largest provider of senior housing and the largest operator of Life Plan Communities.

Forty board members representing 20 Not-for-Profit, Life Plan Communities in 12 states attended the two-day event, which provided board members tools and knowledge to govern their respective communities effectively. Educational topics included board governance, post-acute care, talent management and changing technology. Will Carney, managing director at Ziegler, and Pam Koester, CEO at Koester & Associates, were featured speakers at the event.

According to Pew Research, the first Baby Boomers reached retirement age in 2011 and about 10,000 more reach retirement age each year until 2030. This new generation brings change and opportunities for the senior living industry, and LCS is at the forefront of preparing Not-For-Profit board members for the transition.

“The important contributions of the Not-for-Profit board members are making in the Life Plan space cannot be overstated,” says Rick W. Exline EVP/managing director of Life Plan Communities at LCS. “The board members who govern these communities are making a difference every day in the lives of the seniors we serve today and into the future.”

The two-day event fully immersed new board members into the senior living industry and its ever-evolving dynamics. Riley Wilcox, board finance committee chair at The Forum at Rancho San Antonio in Cupertino, California said, “The conference gave me a good perspective on the senior living industry and stimulated my thinking about the governance and management processes of our community.”
